As a vivid example of these his artistic hobbies, we can cite a series of works in the bonsai style, in the creation of which he, in the literal sense, tortured miniature trees.
The Bonsai series was created by Shen Shaomin during 2007-2009 and presented at this year's Sydney Biennale. We see several trees that, during their growth, were subjected to all kinds of physical influences, practically torture. Why they lost their regular shape, twisted, bent.
Of course, curved trees are just a metaphor for what torture, physical and moral coercion do to a person, to his soul. Trees do not feel pain, but man does.
Shen Shaomin made very strong, powerful, meaningful works. But where is the Plant Protection Society looking?
