A cozy inflatable hut covered with a thick cap of inflatable snow appeared in Miami during the Art Basel International Contemporary Art Festival. She basks in the hot Florida sun at the far end of the great dock, ready to transport Miami Beach residents and visitors to the dreamland of eternal winter.
The floating house, styled as a traditional Swiss chalet, was designed by the French creative duo known as Kolkoz, in collaboration with one of the largest luxury Swiss watchmakers, Audemars Piguet, and the Perrotin Gallery.
The installation was named "Curiosity" in honor of one of the mobile, surface-moving spacecraft - Mars rovers, designed for NASA's program to explore the planet Mars.
“When planning the project, we started from the image of an explorer invading uncharted territory. This is how the concept of a snow-covered chalet set off on a journey and came to the shore right in the middle of a water stadium on the sunny seaside,”the authors of the installation say.
The house is made in natural size and, although it is made mostly of light synthetic materials, from some distance it is practically indistinguishable from a real wooden chalet. Even the "snow-covered" roof looks quite natural. The interior of the inflatable cottage conveys the atmosphere of winter family holidays and home comfort: the walls are sheathed with warm yellow material, and in the middle of the living room there is a stylized fireplace with a chimney, equipped with dark red illumination imitating the flame of burning coals.
The inflatable chalet will be removed from the resort town's stadium when the festival ends. But in the real Antarctica, on real ice floes, the Robert Scott House Museum will remain.
