If you saw a British artist Benjamin Shine at work, you would never have thought that right now, at this moment, a new portrait of a world celebrity is being born before your eyes. From the outside it would look completely different. In the hands - an iron instead of a brush, on the table - a transparent cloth instead of canvas, and in front of us - a man busy with household chores, diligently ironing the curtains. Tulle portraits are a new art project " Tulle "from Benjamin Schein. As often happens, the idea to paint with tulle came to the artist's head quite by accident. Having conceived to paint a portrait of Rembrandt, this brilliant juggler with light and shadow, being in search of new images and ideas, Benjamin mechanically crumpled a piece of black tulle in his hands, heaven knows Then he drew attention to its softness and pliability, obedience to every movement. became a key one - in the next moment Benjamin Schein's art project called "Tulle" was born.
By folding and smoothing, gathering and pleating, crumpling and twisting huge cuts of multicolored tulle, the artist achieves a natural cut-off pattern, and does it so skillfully that from a distance some portraits look like real photographs. Unusual material can be noticed only by looking at them from a close distance, and even then some do not believe their eyes, and read the accompanying information next to the picture. During the few years that Benjamin devoted himself to "painting" with tulle, he created several dozen of such volumetric realistic images that make the audience disbelieve their eyes. Among them, in addition to the debut portrait of Rembrandt, you can see the faces of Elizabeth Taylor and Sheikha Moza (first lady of Qatar), Princess Diana and Sir Philip Green (British millionaire, owner of "TopShop"), Indian guru Sai Baba and controversial artist Andy Warhol. And also a number of portraits that do not belong to the bearers of such resounding names throughout the world.
In addition to portraits, the artist also creates amazing installations from tulle. You can see all this with your own eyes on the Benjamin Shine website.
