Artist Jennifer Davis is well known on the Internet for her whimsical, fantasy and very peaceful designs. However, one of the last series of her works, Jennifer surprised many: she undertook to manually paint paper targets for shooting.

The idea to paint the targets came to an American while watching one of the architecture magazines. “I read in a magazine about the sale of several impressive packs of colored targets from a gun store. The price for all this splendor was ridiculous: less than twenty dollars,”says the artist. It was then that Davis decided to start using targets as a base for portraying her fictional characters. “I started thinking about weapons and about the symbolism of such concepts as death, violence and cruelty … I was curious to work with targets, to transform them into something new. Now, thinking about the image, I rarely think about cruelty - I am interested in rethinking concepts."

After a shooting incident in one of the American schools, Jennifer was devastated and doubted whether she should continue working on the series. "I didn't want to promote violence, even in such an innocent way." Having spent a lot of time and effort, she nevertheless took up the processing of most of the finished targets, in order, as far as possible, to rid them of the associations associated with death.

Jennifer has participated in numerous solo and group exhibitions, including at the Art Institute in Minneapolis, The DeVos Art Museum, DeCordova Museum, Bloomington Art Center and others. Her work can be found in many art galleries in the United States. In 2013, she received a grant from the Minnesota government.

Plots involving weapons or violence often pop up in the work of American artists. Many cartoonists have dedicated their work to this very topic.
