Image search in the Google search engine is probably the most popular way to find this or that image these days. It was this virtual instrument that two British artists decided to use, creating dictionary book with a short and clear name Google.

Just yesterday, we talked about how you can create a real short film from photographs found in online databases, which tells the life of one family, from meeting a boy and a girl to the satisfying old age of a widower who won a jackpot in bingo. But British artists Felix Heyes and Ben West used photos found through Google to create a dictionary of the same name.

To begin with, they took a dictionary of the English language, which contains 21 thousand of the most common words. Then they wrote a computer program that took turns typing those words into the search bar on Google and automatically saving the first images in the search results.

Then the artists compiled all these images into a single book of 1260 pages, in which all 21 thousand images found are arranged in alphabetical order. Felix Hayes and Ben West also created a digital version of the Google book, emphasizing that this is information obtained from the Web.

The authors of the Google Dictionary book explain the meaning of their work as follows: “This is an unfiltered, uncritical slice of contemporary human culture as of 2012. Half of the images included in the publication are very explicit and sometimes disgusting medical, erotic, racist images and poorly drawn pictures."
