As you know, California at the beginning of the second half of the last century was a territory of fairly free morals, where an atmosphere of hippies, Woodstock and movements for the expansion of consciousness reigned. It is not surprising that in such an environment, quite interesting things were sometimes created by artists, sculptors and other creative personalities. The exhibition Primary Atmospheres: Works from California 1960-1970, recently held at the David Zwirner Gallery, NYC, tells about one of the trends in the art of California in the 1960s.
The exhibition provides an overview of the minimastic movement among Los Angeles artists, characterized by its emphasis on object surfaces, synthetics, industrial processes and their perceptions. Often called "Light And Space", this movement was one of the most daring and extraordinary in 1960s California.
While most of the exhibits in the exhibition are examples of minimalism in terms of form, their enchanting surfaces, often crafted from unconventional materials, their brightness and luminescence create a unique style that draws inspiration from the surrounding California landscapes, the bright sun and images of Los Angeles. With their translucent, mirrored, ethereal images, the works erased the line between painting and sculpture and pushed the boundaries of art as a whole.

Who is Mikhail Svetlov, and Why in the 1960s they could name a motor ship only in the Diamond Hand
Today it is really possible to ride the Lena River on the passenger motor ship "Mikhail Svetlov", but this three-deck vessel was built only in 1985.
