When Wilhelm Konrad Roentgen in the distant 1895 discovered X-ray radiation, it could hardly have occurred to him that after a hundred years his discovery would become popular among the arts. Nevertheless, this is exactly what happened, as evidenced by the creativity of those already familiar to us. Matthew Cox, Hugh turvey, Nick veasey, as well as our today's hero - Jim Wehtje.
Jim Wehtje started X-ray photography in 1996 and has been very successful in this business since then. One of the most curious series in his work is images of birds and animals "collected" from X-ray images of shells. Not knowing how these works were actually created, it is quite difficult to guess their true origin: they seem to be just another digital drawings, of which there are a great many now. And only by looking closely, you can see that each character is a collage, assembled from pictures of shells of different shapes and sizes.
During his career, Jim Wehtje has worked with various objects, but his favorite "models" are plants and seashells. “The beautiful specimens of natural objects exposed by X-rays make me feel like we are not really 'creating' anything. Choosing the right poses, perhaps adding color and connecting the parts together, we are simply learning how to see the hidden beauty that is already inherent in any object,”the author believes.

The Shell Grotto in Margate is one of the UK's most mysterious landmarks. Its origin still remains a mystery, despite the fact that it was discovered back in 1835. The grotto is an underground winding corridor (its length is more than 20 meters), the walls of which are decorated with 4.6 million shells
Carved eggs, openwork shell. Brian Baity's incredible work
Surely many of you still have eggs in the refrigerator after Easter. Maybe boiled, maybe raw too. It's not for me to tell you what dishes can be made from eggs, but I know who can turn eggs into something more interesting than scrambled eggs, scrambled eggs or "into a bag". For example, paintings from eggshells are created by the Muscovite Lyuba, and lace sculptures from the same shells are created by the artist Gary LeMaster. However, he is not the only one who turns eggs into works of art at
Dream collages or collages-dreams of the artist Eleanor Wood (Eleanor Wood)
When we sleep, we always dream of something, or almost always. And our dreams are most often a reflection of our reality, or dreams. We are very worried about something or something very much, and this is always reflected in our dreams. And so the artist Eleanor Wood decided to fantasize what ordinary people, young and old, dream about in their dreams and presented the audience with a series of "dreamy" collages
Sand-shell art by Ukrainian artist Svetlana Ivanchenko (Svetlana Ivanchenko)
Today we are not going to admire Japanese animators, French artists and British photographers. We have enough talents of our own, except that their PR is not as powerful as that of our foreign colleagues. And since spring is officially ending today, and vacation plans, as well as beach dresses with panama hats, are waiting in the wings, let's turn to exclusively summer creativity, which is based on shells, sand and the sun of the Yalta sky
