Jim Golden Is an original Portland-based photographer who has created an uncomplicated yet captivating series of photographs. The pictures show a collection of all kinds of objects. Neatly laid out locks, scissors, cameras … what you will not see here!
Photographer Jim Golden is a professional photographer, having worked in advertising for over 15 years, collaborating with brands such as Nike, ESPN and Yahoo. The idea of a real photo cycle was born spontaneously: one day a friend asked Jim to photograph his huge collection of scissors. Individual photographs of the exhibits turned out to be quite charging, so Jim Golden decided to put them all together on the floor and take a general shot. The result pleased the photographer so much that he decided to continue his experiment. Over time, photographs of climbing equipment, mobile phones, guns, musical instruments and more appeared.
In each photograph, you can simultaneously see a variety of models of the same object, so that viewers can look at the pictures for a long time, looking for the smallest differences between familiar things.
One of the problems that Jim Golden faced was finding collections. Since it was not easy to find the required number of similar items. However, with the first publications of finished photographs, dozens of crazy collectors began to turn to Jim. In the process, the talented photographer collaborates with stylist Christine Lane. Sometimes they turn for help not only to individuals, but also to organizations. For example, for one of the shootings, the Portland Photo Club donated 400 cameras with a whale lens.
By the way, Emily Blincoe, a talented photographer from Texas, uses a similar compositional technique of placing objects of the same type on a square canvas in her works. True, unlike Jim Golden, she prefers to shoot not soulless equipment, but flowers and sweets.
