The first acquaintance with the work of Petros Chrisostomou leaves the viewer in some confusion. What are the huge objects placed in different interiors? Are they huge sculptures or are they the result of mastery of Photoshop? Neither one nor the other. Petros' photographs show real objects in miniature decorations.
The peculiarity of the work of Petros Chrisostomo lies in the fact that he photographs ordinary small objects in architectural models that the author constructs on his own. Petros says that his creative process conventionally consists of three stages: the creation of "scenery", the choice of the object to be placed in them, and the actual shooting. As for the first point, the author usually reproduces on a reduced scale those interiors in which he had to live or visit, and regarding the choice of the "main characters" of the photographs, Petros says that he does it intuitively. The last stage includes the technical aspects of studio photography.
The images of Petros Krisostomo are rather big: an average of 150x120 centimeters. According to the author, this size confuses the viewer and makes him assume that the shooting took place in real rooms with real huge sculptures. “I understand that scale is a phenomenal technique, and I use it to attract or interest the viewer,” says the photographer.
The author's fantasy and intuition "placed" pairs of women's shoes, wigs, crystal glasses, food in miniature rooms … Petros himself calls the 18 Fortis Green series his favorite, the focus of which turned out to be ballpoint pens.
Petros Chrisostomo was born in 1981 in London, where he currently lives and works. Interested in poststructuralism. Personal exhibitions of the author's works were held in Greece and France. Petros' works are in public collections in Great Britain, Spain, Switzerland, China.
