Thai elephants for some time now they can claim to be the most socially protected elephants in the world. It's not that they decided to give them pensions, or to allocate subsidies for teaching especially gifted animals to draw. High-quality medicine is also a social guarantee, and Thai elephants can really count on it: it is not in vain that Lampang operates the world's first hospital for the biggest patients! Droppers, syringes, prostheses - everything is like people have.

Of course, the head physician of such an amazing hospital cannot be thai elephant … This is a very small woman in comparison with her patients, Soraida Salwala (Soraida Salwala). The path to her current business began in childhood: she and her father, traveling by car, shot down an elephant. Soraida was about to take "Uncle Elephant" to a special hospital; what was her disappointment when she found out that such hospitals do not exist! It was then that she decided to fix the matter, and in 1993 the dream came true: the world's first hospital for the Friends of Asian Elephants was founded in the large city of Lampang.

Perhaps, in our latitudes, such an exotic hospital would be left without work - but not in Thailand. Thai elephants have recently been the main "workhorse" of the country. And now huge animals are used in agriculture, many of them are involved in the tourism business, and some just wander the streets. If the mahout, the elephant driver, remains unemployed, he lets the ward free: it is too expensive to feed him.

Whether at liberty or at work, all sorts of unpleasant episodes occur with Thai elephants. Many of them step on sharp and dangerous objects, get injured at work, get run over by cars, in the end they just get sick. However, “simple” is not the right word: imagine what it is like to treat a patient whose skin cannot be pierced with a normal syringe!

However, the most serious and fairly common trouble that can be encountered thai elephant is to step on mine … In such cases, you have to wait a very long time for the leg to heal - or even make a huge prosthesis, as was done for the 50-year-old elephant Motala. Nothing is impossible for Thai Aybolits!
