Nothing cheers you up like the long New Year and Christmas holidays. There is an elegant Christmas tree in the room, frost outside the window, and a favorite movie is on TV, which has been associated with the winter holidays since childhood. And it doesn't matter at all that, having matured, we ourselves have become magicians for our children, relatives and friends. After all, you can return to childhood at any moment, once again plunging into the wonderful atmosphere created by your favorite New Year's films.
Irony of Fate or Enjoy Your Bath
Quite deservedly, this Soviet film has been popular and loved by viewers for almost 45 years. A good fairy tale about the New Year's miracle and the fact that it can come to anyone's life suddenly, turning all ideas about happiness upside down. However, this comedy does not need special advertising: the audience knows it almost by heart, but they watch it again and again, laughing at the unlucky Zhenya Lukashin and sympathizing with the correct Ippolit Georgievich.
This is a wonderful life
One of the best foreign films is considered to be the film directed by Frank Capra over 70 years ago. It is this film that appears in the comedy "Home Alone": the large McCallister family watches it while Kevin enjoys loneliness at home. “This Wonderful Life” amazingly creates a festive atmosphere and makes you truly love life.
Evenings on a Farm Near Dikanka
The adaptation of Gogol's story "The Night Before Christmas" has not left the screens for more than half a century and continues to delight the audience with an absolutely incredible story. Inimitable color, stunning cast and surprisingly accurate costumes, together with an original directorial decision, create a feeling of a Christmas miracle as a result.
Alone at home
Almost 30 years ago, one of the most beloved New Year's and Christmas films "Home Alone" was released. The story of a boy forgotten at home while the whole family flew from the USA to France cannot but touch with its simplicity, easy naivety and belief in the best. And the point is not at all that Kevin was able to protect his house from burglars, but that the picture is about true love itself. And this is confirmed by a happy ending, where a little strange, sometimes rude, but still loving people gather in the house again.
Morozko
Since its release in 1964, the tale of Alexander Rowe has firmly entered the list of films that can and should be watched by the whole family on winter evenings. A simple story with a happy ending, where good always triumphs over evil, where hardworking and sincere Nastya finds her happiness, and the lazy and harmful Marfushenka becomes a laughing stock. However, many remember this tale almost by heart. And still they watch it several times a year.
The Grinch Stole Christmas
Surprisingly pleasant and kind fairy tale by American director Ron Howard captures from the very beginning. You sympathize with the terrible and hairy Grinch from the first minute and worry about each hero. And at the end of the viewing, the thought that Dr. Seuss put into his book "How the Grinch Stole Christmas" necessarily comes: this wonderful holiday should be associated not only with gifts, but, first of all, with the warmth of hearts.
Sorcerers
One of the most fabulous and beloved films for many generations. A stunning cast, talented acting, beautiful scenery, the victory of good over evil and an incredible love story from the Strugatsky brothers themselves - this picture was simply doomed to success. However, it is simply impossible to describe "The Wizards", this film must be watched. And believe in a miracle.
Miracle on 34th Street
This film has become a true classic of American cinema. But its special value lies in the fact that it is actually filled with love for people, faith in goodness and in the most real miracles that can find a place in the life of every person. No wonder the little actress Natalie Wood was completely amazed to see Edmund Gwenn, who played Chris Kringle, without a beard. During the filming, the girl was sure: this is the most real Santa Claus. However, every viewer who has plunged into the atmosphere of the Miracle on 34th Street feels like the very child who believes in magic.
Carnival Night
Eldar Ryazanov's bright New Year comedy is filled from beginning to end with a festive atmosphere, pleasant music, sparkling jokes and amazing play of young but very talented actors. Today this picture seems a little naive and slightly grotesque, but those who remember the Soviet era can easily recognize in each character someone from those with whom they happened to meet almost every day. Despite the satirical focus of the film, it turned out to be really sonorous, festive and atmospheric.
Family for rent
Director Ted Kotcheff's Canadian film isn't just about Christmas and belief in miracles. It is about sincere relationships between people, about warmth and simple joys that people are far from always able to appreciate. "Family for Rent" creates the very feeling of a holiday that is sometimes so lacking.
One can hardly imagine the New Year without our favorite films: "The Irony of Fate", "Gentlemen of Fortune", "Carnival Night". They have the charm of the past, a unique atmosphere, subtle humor and belief in miracles. For several decades, these paintings have remained popular. Does a foreign viewer share the opinion of Russians about these masterpieces of Soviet cinema?
