Unfortunately, not all people are born with truly equal opportunities. Social, racial, educational and other conditions give children unequal opportunities in life. But a French artist Christian Boltanski believes that every person still has a Chance in life. This is what his eponymous installation "Chance"presented at the Venice Biennale 2011.

If you can compare the installation "Chance" by Christian Boltanski with anything, it is with a printing press in some printing house where large newspapers are printed. But instead of newspaper strips with fresh news, tapes with newborn babies depicted on them are spinning here.

Thus, Boltanski reproduces the "wheel of Fortune", which can only lift a born person to the very top, and can lower him to the very bottom. And this process has been going on for years, centuries, millennia. But, nevertheless, every child, whoever he is, in what conditions and no matter what family he was born, has his own Chance. But not everyone will be able to use them.

Christian Boltanski explains the name of this installation by the twofold translation of the word "chance". Indeed, in French it carries positive connotations and is perceived as good luck, happiness, and in English, on the contrary, it implies danger and risk. So it is in life. Someone realizes his Chance and gets out to the top, and someone does not, and remains in the "swamp" or even sinks to the very bottom.

But the children … They were just born. They still have their whole life ahead of them. And each of these little people shown in the photographs still has their own Chance, which they can still use. And for greater clarity, part of the installation "Chance" by Christian Boltanski is a counter that shows how many approximately newborns have been born on Earth since the beginning exposure and, accordingly, how many Chances were born with them.

But in Mexico, we recall, in a very unusual way they solve the problem of the future of newborn children, their future happiness and health.
