Video: A new look at time and space in the work of David Spriggs

After the first acquaintance with the works of David Spriggs (David Spriggs), I want to ask the author a lot of questions. How, for example, did he manage to enclose a cloud in a glass aquarium? Or why did a drop of paint freeze in the water, not spreading in it? The answer is simple - it's all drawn, no matter how incredible it may seem at first glance.
David Spriggs creates his works that break our understanding of time and space, applying the drawing with acrylic paints on transparent plastic film. Then many layers of film are superimposed on each other - and a three-dimensional and deep image is obtained, located somewhere in the middle between the sculpture and the drawing.
Perhaps, there are not so many authors working in a similar vein. One of the most famous is Chinese Xia Xiao Wan, with the work of which you could get acquainted on the pages of our blog a little earlier. However, although both authors create their works in similar ways, the result is completely different: the paintings of David Spriggs are distinguished by greater softness and smoother lines, they do not have the clarity and sharpness inherent in the works of a Chinese author. And if the works of Xia Xiao Wan evoke associations with sculptures, with specific objects enclosed in glass aquariums, then Spriggs's works resemble something completely different. A drop of paint falling into a glass of water. A nebula in a distant galaxy. A brightly shining star. Fuzzy and blurred, the artist's images are striking in their depth and leave room for the imagination of the viewer.
David Spriggs was born in 1978 in Manchester (UK), but emigrated to Canada in 1992 and has since lived in Montreal. In 2007 he became a master of sculpture, graduating from the Montreal Concordia University. You can get acquainted with other works of the author by visiting him site.

Scandalous writers of our time and their popular books that are worth reading if you have not yet had time
The book is a wonderful world that does not limit your imagination. The film is a vision of the picture by one person - the director. Most people who read a work and then watched a film based on it agree that cinema can rarely convey all the details and atmosphere of a book
Why German girls willingly went to work in brothels and on what principle did brothels of the Third Reich work?
Two ancient professions - military and ladies of easy virtue have always gone hand in hand. In order to control an army of young and strong men for a long time, it was necessary to take care of all their physiological needs. It is not surprising that at all times violence was accepted in the occupied territories, although there was an alternative - brothels, in the creation of which the Germans especially succeeded during the Second World War
How does Depardieu's daughter look and live, who did 5 operations so as not to look like her father
The famous French actress Julie Depardieu does not like to talk about herself, she hates being called "the daughter of a talented father", she never forgave "Gerard" for the death of her brother. She also admits that she hates acting dynasties, and says that she herself became an actress quite by accident. Julie, not even wanting the mirror to remind her of family ties, went under the knife of plastic surgeons five times to forever part with her appearance, which reminds everyone of her star
How the cartoon "Once upon a time there was a dog" appeared: Why I had to change the name, and make the Wolf look like Dzhigarkhanyan
35 years ago, at the International Film Festival in Denmark, the first place was taken by the Soviet cartoon "Once upon a time there was a dog", created a year before. And in 2012, at the Suzdal Animated Film Festival, this cartoon was recognized as the best over the past 100 years. More than one generation of children has grown up on it, and the phrases of the Dog and the Wolf have long become winged. Many interesting moments remained behind the scenes: the audience is unlikely to know that in the first version of the cartoon the wolf looked completely different, and the censorship did not miss the title
Studies of time and space in installations by Anna Joelsdottir
At least sometimes we all want time to slow down or, on the contrary, run faster; so that there are, for example, not three dimensions in space, but more … Contemporary Icelandic author Anna Joelsdottir imagines that canvases with bright images are the very same time and space, and the author compresses, stretches, rearranges, multiplies them at his pleasure, creating original installations
