There are three ways to make a work of art from a blank sheet of paper. First, do not touch it, but declare it the purest manifestation of art as such. Surely there will be a buyer who will purchase this for a couple of million dollars. Second, make origami. And thirdly, to make a three-dimensional installation out of it, the exhibition of which is now taking place at the Hirshorn Gallery of Modern Art in Washington.
It is not for nothing that Washington is called the capital of the world bureaucracy. It is possible to completely cover the planet Earth with A4 sheets, used annually in that city for various needs, so it is not surprising that it was in this city that an unusual art appeared - the art of making voluminous paper installations from A4 sheets. Moreover, for representatives of this type of creativity it is considered good form or even a rule to use only one paper sheet in the creative process.
The variety of techniques for creating installations, which are obtained from an ordinary sheet of paper, is amazing. The simplest technique is to cut out a certain contour in the sheet, for example, a ballerina, and put it vertically. But this is for beginners. Experienced office artists achieve incredible craftsmanship.
They use scissors, knives, blades, nails. They cut, tear, wrinkle paper. They make both flat and volumetric objects - people, animals, buildings, highly artistic paintings with many meanings and creative techniques.
In general, there is something to brag about to colleagues, there is something to exhibit in the Hirshorn Gallery of Modern Art.
