The enthusiastic congratulations accompanying the appearance of a newborn in the family are necessarily associated with comments about the child's resemblance to his mother or father. In some cases, people are proud of their similarity to their parents, in others they prefer to forget about it. But be that as it may, genes are genes, whether we like it or not. Continuing this thought - a series of collages by Bobby Neil Adams "Family Tree" (FamilyTree).

"Family Tree" - a series of portraits of the closest family members, ie. father and son, mother and daughter, or even father and daughter or mother and son. Each person is photographed separately, and then the images are resized and printed. Two photographs are cut by hand, and different halves are glued together into one portrait, which clearly demonstrates to us how the laws of genetics work.

Bobby Neil Adams was born in North Carolina and now lives in New York. Most of his works are related to the changes that occur to the human body under the influence of time or circumstances. In the late 1980s, he began using a photomontage technique he called "photo surgery".

The author assures that he composes his collages by hand, without using a computer. Given the plethora of Photoshop-processed images these days, it's nice to see creativity that is the result of the work of the human mind and creativity, not a computer program.

In addition to Family Tree, Adams' series of “photo-surgical” works includes the Age Maps project (AgeMaps - collages of half photographs of one person in childhood and adulthood), as well as Couples (Couples - portraits composed of half photographs of family couples with experience). You can get acquainted with these works on the photographer's personal website.
