Most likely, each of us has repeatedly tried to fold flowers, cranes or airplanes out of paper, but then, demonstrating his creation to loved ones, hardly anyone would seriously dare to call it a work of art. But the Englishman James Roper learned how to fold a single model of a flower well - and this was enough for him to organize an original and very colorful installation.
James Roper, already known to our regular readers for his series of drawings called "Ecstasy", this time he decided to surprise the audience with his mastery in the field of origami. "Devotion" is an installation made up of many vibrant paper flowers. However, the exact number of elements is known - 10 thousand.
10 thousand - that's how many times James turned colored sheets of paper into unpretentious origami. But one should not think that the author sat for hours in his studio, doing monotonous work. Not at all - he only folded 10 flowers a day, but for three years. And when the number of models approached the 10,000 mark, James decided it was time to create something more serious. Installation "Devotion" is a great example of how quantity can turn into quality.
"Devotion" in translation from English means "dedication". On the one hand, James Roper lays out forms of devotion such as mandala or sun out of his paper flowers. On the other hand, the very history of the creation of the installation testifies to the great dedication of the author to his work: not everyone has the patience to carry out such an undertaking.
James Roper was born in the British city of Knutsford 28 years ago. In 2005 he received his BA in Drawing from Manchester Metropolitan University. The author currently lives and works in Manchester. Exhibitions of his works are held in many cities around the world, including Milan, Los Angeles, New York, Barcelona, London.
