London cannot complain about the lack of attractions, but recently there are even more of them. In addition to Big Ben, Tower Bridge or Nelson's Column, the British capital has a golden forest as the result of a competition hosted by The Architecture Foundation in 2007.
An unusual building is located opposite the entrance to the British Land's Regent Place Pavillion. It is a flat canopy resting on many thin pillars 8 meters above the ground. The project is a kind of engineering challenge, since it was completed without the use of transverse supports.
The pavilion looks great both day and night, but at different times of the day it makes a completely different impression. A row of metal pillars creates an intimate space around a person, forming peculiar boundaries and instantly separating the viewer from the rest of the world. Only the glimpses of the facades of houses and distant cars remind you of where you really are. And if you lift your head up, you can see the sky through the hole in the diamond-shaped canopy.
The contemplation of the golden forest at night further emphasizes the height and depth of the public pavilion. The lamps located below illuminate the entire sculpture to the very top, and it seems as if it is entirely made of gold - a kind of golden oasis in the middle of a bustling city.
The installation was created by the British architectural studio Carmody Groarke, founded in 2006 by Kevin Carmody and Andrew Groarke. Among the clients of the studio are both companies from the UK and representatives of foreign countries - the USA, Italy, Australia, Turkey.
