In 2007, when talented Canadian sculptor David Altmejd was elected to represent Canada at the Venice Biennale, he became the youngest sculptor entrusted with representing his native country at such a prestigious exhibition.

David Altmeid was born in Montreal, Canada in 1974. He studied art at the University of Quebec in Montreal in 1998. In the same year, his personal exhibition took place in several galleries. The artist then moved to New York, where he earned a degree in fine arts from Columbia University. The works of the talented master are presented in numerous galleries in New York, Montreal, London and in many cities around the world.

Altmeid's unusual, shocking sculptures and installations are probably one of the main reasons for his rapid rise to the pinnacle of popularity and fame. When creating his sculptures, David Altmeid uses a variety of materials - plaster, different parts of mannequins, animal heads, crystals. He brings all this material together to create a fantasy world that contrasts with traditional reality.

Altmaid claims that he explores the fantasy world in his work. The artist very rarely depicts human figures, he believes that art is oversaturated with them. Instead, he creates mystical creatures - surreal werewolves, giants, freaks.

Unlike many contemporary representatives of art, David Altmeid does not force the viewer to decipher the artistic message contained in his works, because he simply is not there. The works of art by a Canadian do not contain an idea at all. According to the author himself, the idea is not at all the main thing in creativity, the most important thing is to create something uncontrollable and unresolved.

David Altmeid believes that the body is a separate world, a universe, it is not at all a resident of some fantastic country. The characters created by the author are themselves specific landscapes and worlds.
