Photographer and artist from Washington Lee Gainer, having studied the length and breadth of the wedding industry, rituals and rules for choosing wedding rings, presented to the public a series of prints demonstrating what a ring should be, depending on the social status and profession of the groom. Her work explores how a person's position in society directly dictates price.
The “two-month salary” rule is the rule that each groom should be guided by and spend so much when choosing and buying a diamond ring for his future wife.
Lee Gainer chose twenty different types of professions, ranging from actor to cashier and mathematician, and calculated the expected cost of a diamond engagement ring. She then presented nine different designs of supposed rings that would be affordable for every groom, depending on their professional activities.
