The Lemon Festival is a unique event in the world that attracts more than 230,000 visitors annually and the number of spectators increases with each festival. 300 professionals are working on the festival this year, and 145 tons of citrus fruits are used.
The 76th Lemon Festival takes place from February 13 to March 4, 2009 in the French city of Menton.
Menton is a resort on the French Riviera. Thanks to the favorable subtropical microclimate, there is practically no winter in Menton, which makes it possible to grow lemons all year round. Menton is called the "capital of lemons", collecting three crops of this type of citrus per year.
The three-week celebration is accompanied by exhibitions of lemon and orange sculptures, parades, musical performances of folk compositions and French folk tunes, and fireworks. During the Lemon Festival, sleepy Menton wakes up to a riot of colors and an atmosphere of fun. A visit to the exhibition of lemon and orange sculptures costs from € 9- € 22.
The theme of the current Lemon Festival, which runs until March 4th, is "The Music of the World".
