What is the past for us? Is this something that has long since sunk into oblivion? Or grains of knowledge and skills of the ancestors that need to be preserved? Or maybe the past is the basis and model for the present? The artist Alexander Sigov adheres to the latter position in his work. From his canvases, the present, living, modern past looks at us without a touch of the textbook gloss.
Alexander was born in Leningrad in 1955. He graduated from the V. A. Serov Art School in 1975. The author is a member of the Union of Artists of Russia, his works can be found in many private collections both in Russia and abroad. Alexander is a participant of many exhibitions (more than 150!), Held (and taking place) in various countries of the world.
The past looks at us not only from the paintings of Aleskandr Sigov. We are all sometimes gripped by nostalgia - from this point of view, the past is viewed by Hollis Brown Thornton, who makes wonderful works from videotapes. And Alex Prager, a retro-style photographer, also takes us back in time.
The famous art critic Elena Anufrieva speaks about the work of Alexander Sigov as follows: “Transferring the aesthetics and symbolism of images of the past In his works, Alexander Sigov creates his own integral world, in which the subtlest pictorial relationships are conveyed with a certain accuracy. Whatever cultural traditions the author turns to, he is always accompanied by a subtle sense of taste, whether it is a portrait reminiscent of images from the Renaissance or the monumental and austere forms of Egypt. The richness of the colorful timbre, the variety of pictorial textures, combined with compositional completeness, allow the artist to express the fusion of styles and images as a harmonious work."
Despite the traditional technique and plots, works by Alexandra Sigova dedicated to the topic modern past, do not seem to be something secondary at all. Each picture is drawn very, very carefully, the colors that are most suitable for this type of creativity are selected for the canvases. And from the eyes of people and animals depicted in the paintings, you can immediately see that the author worked, putting his whole soul into his creations.
Alexander himself writes about painting the following: “Salvador Dali's one of his ten commandments says:“Do not be afraid of perfection, you will not achieve it”. Painting is what helps me get closer to this mystery, riddle. If in life, to achieve a certain goal, having understood the secret of truth, disappointment often comes, then in art there is a hope to preserve this secret, comprehending it every day."

What is wrong with the images of the Egyptian pyramids in the paintings of the artists of the past, and what conclusions are drawn from this today
Ancient Egypt left behind too many ambiguities and mysteries. It is difficult to refrain from building different theories regarding the history of the country of the pharaohs, and other people's reasoning inevitably attracts attention. What is left if scientists tend to be careful in their assumptions, and enthusiasts are exceptionally generous with them? Moreover, there is something to build their versions on - take, for example, the strangeness with the depiction of Egyptian pyramids by artists
Ghosts from the past in paintings by American artist Charles L. Peterson
And what artists do not think of in order to win the attention of the public. And therefore, what only we will not see on the Internet: and delightful, and outrageous, and out of the ordinary. But, the unusual work of the American master of watercolor painting Charles L. Peterson, I think, will touch everyone for a living, since we are all people, and people have memory … Memory of parents and loved ones, of places dear to the heart and much more. Masterfully combining places of memory and images associated with it
Paintings-photographs from Paco Pomet: redrawing the past
The Spanish artist Paco Pomet uses old archival photographs as canvases, introducing fantastic or absurd elements into them, changing scales, adding additional participants or painting over existing ones - and thus commenting on the inherent tendency of human memory to forget and distort the events of past years

Shock, shock, surprise and conquer. Sometimes it seems that it is according to this scheme that many representatives of contemporary art live and create, developing, strengthening and actively complementing the indicated scheme of influencing human consciousness. Therefore, it is difficult to decide from the first time whether the artist actually perceives reality differently, depicting in his paintings something incomprehensible, but colorful, and thereby attracting attention, or whether it was a distraction, carefully thought out and planned
