Holi is considered to be one of the most colorful holidays in India. This is a holiday of spring, filled with the fury of blossoming nature and sunshine. Apparently, it is older than the legends that explain its origin in our days - it contains many elements of primitive orgies in honor of deities and forces of fertility, elements close to the holidays of different peoples of the world.
There are several legends associated with the origin of this holiday. According to one of them, the name Holi comes from the name of the demoness Holiki. Prahlada, the son of an evil king, worshiped Vishnu, and nothing could dissuade him of this. Then the king's sister demoness Holika, who was believed not to burn in the fire, persuaded Prahlada to go to the fire in the name of God. To everyone's amazement, Holika was burned, and Prahlada, rescued by Vishnu, came out unharmed. In memory of these events, on the eve of Holi, an effigy of the evil Holiki is burned. Why isn't Shrovetide for you?
