Video: 10 movies in which things could have gone differently if not for alcohol
2024 Author: Richard Flannagan | [email protected]. Last modified: 2023-12-15 23:55
It happens that circumstances are stronger than a person. In any case, this is exactly what the heroes of the films collected in this review think. In their case, alcohol became such a serious circumstance. And it was around the notorious bottle that the whole plot sometimes unfolded.
1. "In love at will"
director Sergei MikaelyanThe intelligent Oleg Yankovsky plays in this film a drinking sportsman who has sunk to the social bottom. An unusual image for the idol of the Soviet screen, however, he coped with his role. And at the same time he helped his partner win the Silver Bear at the Berlin Film Festival for Best Actress. Since the best candidate for whom it would be worth a woman to transform, it was simply not possible for her to find. It all started with a three-ruble note per bottle … No problem! Only you are an athlete, try and fall in love - or weakly? The heroine set the bar high for him, because, alas, she herself does not shine with beauty … However, when the hero began to communicate with her, he had a completely different look at her. Or maybe no one is more beautiful than her in the world..?
2. "Guard for daughter"
director Maciej ShlesickiHe's the best of the best. Professional to the core. A former special forces soldier, but now out of work. And he was decided to hire a mafia to guard his own daughter. They forgot to warn him only about one thing, that the hero does not dry out. Drinks terribly. However, the boss of the mafia will find a way out here too. The only thing that he never foresees is that the hero will fall in love with his daughter …
3. "Blind Date"
directed by Blake EdwardsThe hero of Bruce Willis is a single man in his thirties, and lately he has not been interested in anything other than work. He was given the chance to hold an important, business meeting with a foreign partner. But there is one snag, for this meeting it is necessary to find a beautiful companion who will accompany him. And it seems that a way out was found … My brother proposed a candidacy for his charming friend … But she absolutely, absolutely cannot drink alcohol …! And he forgot about it. This is where it all begins.
4. "Right now, not after"
director Hong Sang-suA striking example of auteur cinema, accessible to all viewers. Largely due to the direct involvement of alcohol. It is this distillation product that makes the heroes really open up (and some even undress) and sincerely respond to the feelings of the other. But everything could have been different, as the director shows. Two options for the development of events. And for that the Golden Leopard Award for Film in Locarno.
5. "Drunk"
director Barbet SchroederThis guy is especially good at being a loser, down-and-out macho guy. In such images, he becomes touchingly sad and worthy of all sympathy. It's about the brutal Mickey Rourke. It is he who is the alcoholic hero of this poetic film. But this epithet is not applicable to him alone. After all, he finds the same kindred spirit, laying on the collar, the heroine Faye Dunaway. However, their harmonious fusion threatens to destroy the literary editor of one edition, which could make Rourke's hero a real star. The film was nominated for the Palme d'Or.
6. "Cruel Romance"
director Eldar RyazanovAlcoholic drinks may not play the main role here, but how do they add color to the images of the heroes! It is impossible to imagine the master Mikhalkov without a glass of alcohol, which is brought to him by the unchanging gypsies. And these dances! And what about Myagkov? A stunning Soviet actor becomes himself only after vodka, then everything hidden breaks out. But who does not drink here … The soul of the Russian people is deep, it seeks to snatch everything to the bottom. So the vicious villains decided to destroy the pure, innocent soul.
7. "Leaving Las Vegas"
directed by Mike FiggisIt turns out Nicolas Cage has an Oscar for Best Actor. The choice of a role, which is by no means a moral and spiritual person, is also surprising. Or rather, a terrible drunkard. Who voluntarily decided to kill himself slowly. But how! With chic! The best drinks! The hero decided to buy the whole bar. And only a prostitute (sorry, a woman of easy virtue) sees grief in this. She is the one trying to help.
8. Taxi Blues
director Pavel LunginAnother, not the most obvious post-Soviet film, the development of events in which begins with alcohol. This is what happens when you jam your musical talent: a terrible workaholic takes you on bail and wants to make you a man. Here are just someone else who, who knows whose will take, and to whom the truth will be revealed in this life. The film in the 90th year was worthy of the Palme d'Or, but lost to the picture with the same ubiquitous Nicolas Cage.
9. "Sue"
director Amos KollekWhen life does not work out, a woman can drink too. And this only hurts the viewer, especially when a woman is beautiful and by no means the last person. She is just lonely: she sits in a rented apartment without work, and the man's shoulder is not nearby. And a subtle soul will not allow someone to ask for money. Unless … for something in exchange. What does an attractive woman have to offer? But. She will do this from a pure heart. In the hope that someone will understand this.
10. "Cocktail"
directed by Roger DonaldsonYou can't drink all the time because of misfortune! You can have fun with alcohol too, and Tom Cruise's dazzling young persona will prove it. The man did not find a place for himself in the daytime office blocks, but he easily became a night star in New York. He's a bartender, and that says it all. He is the best of the best, but who helped him? And what awaits him ahead, when morning comes and all alcoholic vapors are gone. After all, the bar counter is by no means the limit of his dreams …

First-borns, as a rule, are smarter and more talented than the next children in the family, scientists say. The reason for this is the smaller amount of attention and parental resources that go to the younger ones: if there is an opportunity to invest a lot of effort and time in the first or second child, then the third and fourth are not so lucky. And the fifth? Seventh? Seventeenth? Here are the people without whom the history of mankind would have been different, all of them are far from being the first to be born to their parents, who still managed to raise geniuses
