The New Orleans Museum of Art recently opened an installation entitled Thalassa by renowned author Swoon. Thalassa is the ancient Greek goddess of the sea, and the art object in her honor was built here for a reason. New Orleans, which lies at the confluence of the Mississippi with the Gulf of Mexico, is a port city, so its inhabitants are not averse to appeasing the sea deity with paper art.
The art object "Thalassa" was created specifically for the room where it was going to be installed, namely the main hall of the New Orleans Museum of Art. The author was inspired to this work by the fact that the port city owes a lot to the sea: trade, transport, and food. If the sea gods are angry, as during the infamous Hurricane Katrina, then little will seem to anyone.
So they decided to build an installation in the city in honor of the goddess Thalassa - true, ancient Greek, but who knows how far her jurisdiction extends. By the way, she doesn't look very much like a Greek woman.
The art object is made of paper: the image of the goddess Thalassa herself with a crab on her chest, emerging from the waves of the sea, and something like tentacles or algae, which smoothly ends her body.
It will be possible to contemplate the goddess in all her papery glory until September 25.

Wooden egg on the Beaulieu river. Art object by Stephen Turner
To save animals during the Great Flood, Noah built an ark, and contemporary artist Stephen Turner recently built a giant wooden egg to save people, reminding them of the ever-changing ecological situation. The Exbury Egg can be seen on the Beaulieu River, which flows through Hampshire, UK. This is not just a whimsical art object, Stephen Turner plans to live a year in this wooden "shell", observing the ebb and flow of the river
An architect from a family of nomads erects buildings, each of which is an eco-friendly art object
In the architectural environment, Totan Kuzembaev is considered a master. It has become a laureate of international prizes more than once, and each of its buildings can be safely called a separate eco-friendly art object. The architect also boldly approached the arrangement of his own home. For the 65-year-old architect, this is not a challenge to society at all, but a way of self-expression. For example, in a Moscow apartment filled with unrealistically strange furniture, he is very comfortable
Matryoshka log: "pregnant" art object by Giuseppe Penone
Each unremarkable log has artistic potential: if not Pinocchio, then at least one more tree, but smaller in size, can turn out from it. Art objects by Giuseppe Penone are about opportunities hidden for the time being, about a new life that lurks even in a felled, dead trunk. And also - about the fragile "backbone" that holds a huge deck with thin branches. And, finally, these sculptures are about the subtle mental organization of any, even unattractive, log (we are talking
Cornucopia: Wang Zhiyuan's art object for the protection of the environment
Chinese artist and installation author Wang Zhiyuan has created an art object with an environmental theme. An 11-meter tornado made of plastic bottles wanders the planet, encompassing art galleries and other "hotbeds of culture" with high ceilings: not every hall can accommodate such a colossus. However, no particular destruction has yet to be seen: environmental problems are not a new topic, and visitors to exhibitions will be surprised for ten minutes, and they will disperse
Tara Donovan's cloud-molecule: art object "Untitled"
42-year-old artist Tara Donovan lives and works in New York. Her works are unusual art objects made from materials such as scotch tape, disposable cups and drinking straws. Moreover, the artist first chooses the material, and only then begins to come up with something to sculpt out of it. As a result, phenomenal installations are obtained, similar to coral reefs, haystack, mycelium. Tara Donovan's last work, Untitled, is either gray clouds or giant molecules - depending on
