The name of Gene Denevan (Jim Denevan) is already familiar to our regular readers: having seen once, his huge drawings in the sand it's hard to forget. But it turns out that sand is not the only material the author works with. In March of this year, Jim went to distant Siberia, where he created his famous patterns on the snow-covered surface of the frozen Lake Baikal.
Jim Denevan is known for his love of creating works of a huge scale: for example, last year, his drawings in the Nevada desert were recognized as the largest work of art in the world. However, the author decided to surpass himself, so it is not surprising that for a new large-scale work, he chose the appropriate place - one of the largest lakes on Earth. By the way, before that Jim had never been to Russia, but this did not prevent him from brilliantly coping with the task.
Jim Denevan and his team of eight assistants worked for two weeks to create the snow patterns on the ice. All this time they lived in a yurt, set up right in the middle of a frozen lake. The whole process was accompanied by constant video and photographing: given the fragility of all of Jim's drawings, one cannot but agree that documenting his work is extremely important and necessary.
The finished drawing on the surface of the lake covered an area of approximately 23 square kilometers, and thus the author broke his own last year's record. Unfortunately, the world's largest work of art had the same fate as all the other works of Jim Denevan: only if the tide washes away the drawings in the sand, then the wind and the sun worked on the patterns from the snow. In May 2010, the author's work completely disappeared, leaving only memories of himself.
