The cancer on the mountain did not whistle yet, but Japanese artist Aki Inomata presented an unusual art project with a playful title "Why Not Hand Over a" Shelter "to Hermit Crabs?" ("Why not give shelter to hermit crabs?"). The project turned out to be necessary and timely: in the summer, vacationers dismantle a lot of shells on the beach for souvenirs, thereby depriving the crayfish of the opportunity to find refuge. Aki Inomata urges us to preserve the surrounding nature, and as compensation, he offers tiny acrylic houses for the time being.
An unusual project appeared in 2010 and does not lose its relevance to this day. Science knows that hermit crabs use empty clam shells as shelter, inhabiting the intertidal zone and in shallow water. So for us a fancy shell is a trinket, and for crayfish it is a whole house.
Using 3D modeling technology, Aki Inomata has created small "shell houses", imitating the architecture of different countries around the world. In her unusual project, different cultures suddenly blended together, giving birth to many new meanings. In addition to protecting nature, the artist invites us to look at ourselves. How does a person travel to different parts of our planet change? What transformations are taking place in it with the acquisition of new citizenship, immigration or resettlement to a new country.
Human adaptation to new living conditions is a complex and exciting process. A person, like a hermit crab, does not change, his inner essence remains the same, but the shell in which he lives can be anything. This is the metaphorical sound of an intriguing art project.
By the way, let us remind you that not so long ago on the site Kulturologiya. Ru we talked about the project “Another Place” by the cult contemporary sculptor Anthony Gormley. He also reflects on the problems of emigration, homesickness and bright hopes that are born in the souls of people who are starting a new life.

Serbian curiosity: a hermit house in the middle of the Drina river
If you do not like noisy beaches and advertised tourist sites, look for peace and quiet, then there is simply no better refuge than a lonely house built in the middle of the Serbian Drina River on the entire planet. A tiny haven that gives coolness in the summer heat and staunchly fights against the autumn winds - for more than 40 years this house has been a symbol of the fact that nothing is impossible for a person
Taiga Lolita: The story of a hermit with many children who, 20 years later, decided to return from the forest to people
Modern mankind is very accustomed to everything that we call "the benefits of civilization." But there are so many people in the world who do not consider civilization a good at all - on the contrary, they are sure that it is a terrible evil. Some of these people try to avoid the harmful influence of this evil and go somewhere to deserted, remote places - they become hermits. Quite often these are just obscurantists and sectarians, but it also happens that quite intelligent educated people are carried away by such utopian
My home is my skateboard: home for real skateboarders
In a skateboarder's dwelling, there should be no place for right angles: the original floors should smoothly merge into the walls so that you can roll along them even to the ceiling. An unusual room (either a house or a skate platform) was created by the architect François Perrin, designer Gilles Lebon Delapointe and professional skater Pierre-André Senisergue. The PAS project (according to the athlete's initials) allows you not to lose your skill and train even on the way from the couch to the sink. You can see the wonderful interior in the La Gaite Museum in Paris

The Reds are coming! The crab movement for freedom
On Christmas Island, early November are the red days of the calendar. At this time, thousands of red crabs are selected to honor the anniversary of the Great October Socialist Revolution. The "Reds" are walking in huge crowds, waving their claws and possibly singing revolutionary songs in the crab tongue. This is perhaps the largest and most spectacular communist demonstration among animals
