The Big Cartoon Festival opened in Moscow on September 20. It has been held for the 12th time and this time it was decided to pay special attention to Japanese animation. By including a large number of such cartoons in the program, the organizers in this way decided to support the "Year of Japan in Russia" campaign.

Previously, no one cared about exposing the topic of animation to a wide audience. Now the situation must change. This year's festival program included several full-length films at once, including the anti-war story titled "The Graves of the Fireflies."

It was decided to divide short animated cartoons from Japan into three collections, and each of them was marked "18+". It is interesting that the Big Cartoon Festival is trying to show against all odds that cartoons are not just works designed for a children's audience. On the contrary, a large number of animated films are now being released, targeting an adult audience.

Decide to classify all cartoons for adults in the festival program by genre and direction. The main thing this time will be the show of the "Head-Mountain" animation. This cartoon by Koji Yamamura was nominated for the 2003 Oscar. It is with him that the rapid development of Japanese animation begins, the emergence of a huge number of masters who want to work in this direction.

The festival will end with a screening of the legendary cartoon "Hedgehog in the Fog", created by Yuri Borisovich Norshtein. It is worth noting that this Soviet cartoon in Japan is considered the best cartoon that has been created of all time. Yuri Borisovich himself will give a traditional lecture.

Foreign guests include Jean-Christophe Roger, who became famous in France thanks to the series Ernest and Celestine in Winter. He talks about the friendship between a little mouse and a big bear. He brought with him four episodes of this series to Moscow for the festival. During the Big Cartoon Festival, a foreign guest will hold a master class for adults, where he will teach them adapting fairy tales, comics, novels and other works in animation.

In total, as part of the Big Festival of Cartoons, screenings will be held at thirty venues in the Russian capital. During this event, more than three hundred programs will be held. Young animators will be able to get acquainted with the concept of pixelation, abstract animation, with puppet and plasticine techniques, etc.
