A festival called "Gorky fest" was held in Nizhny Novgorod. This festival was held for the first time. It showed new domestic films, including "Buy Me", "Blockbuster", "Sofichka" and others. The film-experiment "Turkish Saddle" by director Yusup Razykov won the festival.

The award for the best direction was given by the judges of the competition to Kira Kovalenko for her film "Sofichka", which is based on the work of Fazil Iskander. Director Alexander Veledinsky received a special prize for his contribution to cinema.

Vladimir Khotinenko, chairman of the Gorky fest jury, was surprised by the high level of the competition program. He called Nizhny Novgorod a landmark for filmmakers and believes that the festival will continue to be held, it will become an important part of the city. The audience liked the festival, which is very important, because such events are held for them.

Nikita Mikhalkov made a speech at the opening ceremony of the festival. He believes that there should be more film festivals, but only if such events represent really worthy work of directors. The festival was also attended by such celebrities as Anna Churina, Konstantin Khabensky, Ekaterina Shpitsa, Andrey Merzlikin and many other stars of Russian cinema.

Many talented directors took part in the festival, which was noted by Mikhail Porechenkov. He suggests that the new Bitter Fest festival will push them to create good cinema, because high-quality films can be shot in the regions, and not just in the capital. Many directors do not want to leave their hometowns and move to St. Petersburg or Moscow, but this is not necessary. The good thing about working in the regions is that less money is required to shoot a film.

Evgeny Kudelnikov said that his team managed to create a full-fledged film without state support, but it is problematic to bring it to a big cinema, since there are no necessary connections. And therefore, at the next festival, the presentation of film projects by regional directors to metropolitan producers has already been planned.

Alexey Petrukhin said that the national cinema is experiencing a shortage of interesting, worthy ideas today, and also noted that the development of regional cinema will help to cope with this. The festival is planned to be held further every year. Porechenkov suggests that this event will be able to combine theater, cinema and literature.
