Childhood is not only about beautiful toys, yoghurts and scheduled sleep. Photographer Gustav Willeit visited the African state of Togo and talked about how local teenagers spend their days there. The expedition was part of a project to protect the rights of children in developing countries.
The Child Protection Project started in 2007 and aims to raise funds to buy blood transfusion bags to fight malaria. Photographer Gustav Willeit spent eight days in Togo and took many pictures of the children of the Ewe, the largest ethnic group. The project was launched in different countries of the world by the Costa Family Foundation, earlier Gustav has already visited Uganda and India.
Togo is one of the smallest countries in Africa and one of the least developed in the world. The population is about 6, 1 million people, almost half are employed in agriculture. In fact, the country consists of small villages, many families live below the poverty line. As part of the project, Gustav met the Ewe people, he visited hospitals, schools, markets and churches to see how Africans live.
Gustav hopes that his pictures will attract attention and tell the world about how the African population lives. The photographer, for example, was amazed that the children of Ewe overcome the path of several kilometers off-road to get to school. And they perceive such "walks" as entertainment: they joke, laugh, play games. Gustav notes: "Maybe this is a cliché, but it is true: these children are very positive, and their smiles warm the heart. With my pictures, I tried to show how simple and beautiful life can be, even if a person has practically nothing."
Gustav recalls his acquaintance with Eve with warmth, says that the children were glad to meet him, played with him with pleasure, took pictures (for many it was surprising to see themselves on the camera monitor).
99-year-old American Lillian Weber also helps African children in her own way. She sews outfits for girls every day and on her account already 840 exclusive dresses!

15 New Year's photos that will remind you of the happy and magical moments of our childhood
New Year at all times was, perhaps, the most long-awaited holiday for children. In the last days before the onset of the new year, the kids tried to behave well in order to please Santa Claus, intensively wrote letters with wishes to him and constantly looked under the tree, checking if Santa Claus had already brought a gift. And children's matinees were and remain an obligatory attribute of the New Year. In our review, photos from family archives, which capture the pleasant pre-New Year bustle
Happy childhood: 35 atmospheric photographs of Soviet children
Soviet children did not have computers or other gadgets. All the entertainment was in the yard, at the stadium, in the pioneer camp, or at my grandmother's in the village. And perhaps that is why childhood was so interesting and eventful. Even black-and-white photographs of that time convey the joy, good mood and enthusiasm of Soviet children

Looking at the wonderful works of the Japanese author Shintaro Ohata, it is difficult to determine what is in front of us - sculpture or painting. And if you look closely, it turns out that both. Sculpture paintings are something like a miniature diorama or panorama, where a flat scenic background and three-dimensional objects in the foreground together form one whole
Novocherkassk: The Story of the Shot City, to which Soviet Children Own a Happy Childhood
56 years since the Novocherkassk tragedy. Not a round date, but few people paid attention even to the anniversary that happened last year, and even more so, few tried to comprehend the meaning of those events - it’s painfully scary. Already after Stalin's death, when, it would seem, the entire "bloody" part of Soviet history was left behind, the "workers" state fired at the workers. How and why this happened and what impact the events in Novocherkassk had on the fate of all those born in the USSR - read our material
