When the locals found a huge carcass on the ocean shore, they were seriously scared. This animal did not look like anything familiar: whether it was a huge squid, a whale or a monster unknown to science, it simply rested in the water in a shapeless heap and inspired fear by its very presence.
The fishermen who discovered the animal, at first took it for an overturned boat - it was so big. The body, about 15 meters long, just lay in one of the bays and was already beginning to decompose, leaving bright red marks in the water.
This find took place on Tuesday, on the island of Serum, belonging to Indonesia, and the very next day, May 10, one of those who discovered this unknown monster, posted photos and a small video on Facebook, which excited the Internet.
Local residents also turned to the authorities with a request to remove the corpse from the water, since they could not do it on their own - and it was frankly scary to approach this unknown creature. The police arrived at the scene with a team of oceanographers, who determined that the body had lain on the shore for at least three days before being found.
At a glance, scientists could not accurately identify which animal it was, so they took small specimens of the creature's flesh to establish the name already in the laboratory. At the same time, the local office of the municipal government of agriculture believes that this is most likely a dead manatee. "Several manatees have recently been seen in this region," a government official said.
However, this version looks somewhat doubtful, since usually manatees reach a maximum of three meters in length and their weight does not exceed half a ton, while the approximate weight of the found body is about 35 tons.
Perhaps this animal could be one of those thanks to which arose Leviathan myth - the sea monster mentioned in the Old Testament.
