Falling in love with your reflection in the mirror is not easy, especially when you are a teenager and your skin color is significantly different from the skin color of your classmates. Keris Rogers is only 10 years old, but she has already learned what it is like to be different from everyone else. However, instead of despairing, she found a way to transform her jet-black skin into her greatest asset, and at the same time support thousands of people around the world. The girl has created a clothing line that makes you feel comfortable in any situation!
Today Kheris Rogers is absolutely happy: she has what she loves, and instead of ridicule, she constantly hears words of support and approval. However, this was not always the case. When Keris went to first grade, there were four more dark-skinned children among her classmates, but the skin color of little Keris was significantly different even from them, not to mention the children with fair skin. Children are cruel and often ridiculed her. Keris was upset, but tolerated.
The real tragedy for her was an incident that occurred in one of the lessons. The teacher gave the task to draw herself and, distributing colored pencils, gave Keris black instead of brown. The girl took this offense hard, and her 22-year-old sister Taylor Pollard decided to support her. Taylor tweeted a photo of Keris with the comment, "My sister is only 10, but she looks like a queen." The picture was accompanied by the hashtag #FlexinInHerComplexion.
Among Taylor's friends and subscribers, this post caused a real stir, it was appreciated by more than 83 thousand people, and Keris was really happy, because so many people wanted to support her. Keris and Taylor decided that it would be a great idea to release their signature T-shirts with the Flexin 'In My Complexion print, which can be translated as “My strength is in my complexion”.
As soon as Keris published the first pictures in T-shirts, she immediately received several orders, other girls and women who faced the same problem also wanted to buy them. Rogers comments on his initiative: “I feel confident in this T-shirt, even if I stand out from the crowd with my skin color. I would like people with dark skin to feel more bold and to know that skin color does not determine beauty. Keris hopes many will feel better this summer with a constant reminder of how beautiful they are in their wardrobe!
