His path in art was not at all easy, although he was born in an acting environment. Harrison Ford's natural shyness made him almost faint every time during student performances. He tried many professions and worked as a carpenter in Hollywood, but he could not deceive fate. Harrison Ford nevertheless became one of the best and most famous actors, and the source of full-fledged happiness for him is not a profession at all.
First acting experience
He was born into the family of former radio actress Dorothy Niedelman and Christopher (John) Ford, an actor who played in vaudeville, and later retrained as a dubbing actor. The main activity of Christopher Ford subsequently became advertising.
Despite the profession of parents, Harrison Ford did not see himself as an actor at all. He went on hikes with Boy Scouts, reaching the second highest grade in this field, studied reptiles and was known among his peers as a crybaby and a weakling. It seems that even then he had nothing to do with the opinions of others. He was very shy, shy when people paid attention to him, and liked walking alone around Chicago.
Nevertheless, already in school years, the acting genes made themselves felt. At his Maine East high school, he became the first announcer of a new school radio station and was the first sports commentator to be voiced during Harrison Ford's final year in 1960.
Growing up, Harrison began to try himself in different professions. He worked as a tobacco seller and cook on a pleasure yacht, but nothing fascinated him. He even chose Ripon College in Wisconsin because it didn't take much effort to enter. Young Harrison studied philosophy and English and even enrolled in drama school to overcome his natural shyness. Standing on the stage, every time he almost fainted from excitement, but unexpectedly for himself, he suddenly became carried away by acting.
He did not show much zeal for his studies, but the theatrical experience turned out to be very useful for him. Students began to pay attention to Ford. One of them, Mary Marquardt, often helped Harrison with homework, and in general was a very attractive and kind girl. Soon a real romance broke out between the young people, and in 1964, after graduating from college, they legalized their relationship.
First success and first losses
In the same year, Harrison Ford went with his young wife to Los Angeles, where he hoped to get a job on the radio. He did not receive the position, but signed a contract for $ 150 a week with Columbia Pictures. He played small roles in films, but every time he felt humiliated when he was offered another tiny role as a wordless bellboy.
Later, he significantly increased his own self-esteem, earning the reputation of a first-class carpenter. Harrison took on the most difficult projects without fear, studied the theory of carpentry from books, and then was ready to fulfill any whim of his customer. Ford continued to act in films, but already diligently chose only those roles that were interesting to him. Now he was confident in his strength and in the ability to feed his family, in which the sons Benjamin and Willard had already been born.
Later, he met George Lucas, and in 1973 Ford played in his film "American Graffiti", and in 1977 "Star Wars" was released. Harrison Ford instantly became popular. But, as the actor later admitted, the movie separated him from Mary Marquardt. She was not ready for the fame that fell on her husband, or for rumors of his romance with the most beautiful actresses in the world. However, she could not reconcile herself to the constant absence of her husband at home. Now he disappeared all the time on the set and presentations. In 1979, the couple separated.
The actor does not leave his first family with attention today. According to Mary Marquardt, he still helps her financially.
Middle age crisis
In 1983, Harrison Ford married a second time. He met screenwriter Melissa Matheson back in 1976, during the filming of the movie "Apocalypse Now", but the romance between them broke out while Ford was finishing the formalities for the divorce from his first wife.
Melissa Mathison, by the time of her marriage to Ford, had already become famous as the scriptwriter of Steven Spielberg's film "Alien." In 1987, a son, Malcolm, was born into the family, and three years later, a daughter, Georgia.
By that time, he had already played many star roles, including Indiana Jones, but still felt uncomfortable when he had to give interviews, stand on stage in the spotlight or sign autographs. In fact, he remained the same shy Harrison Ford, who most of all loved to wander alone in the vicinity of Chicago.
Harrison Ford does not hide: he was never a good husband and father. His marriage to Melissa lasted about 20 years, but in 2000 he moved from their family nest to a hotel, and later Melissa filed for divorce. She had plenty of reasons for this step. She honestly tried to fight for her love, but Harrison Ford did not give her a single chance.
It seems that he was overtaken by a real midlife crisis, and the actor succumbed to him with pleasure. Shortly before parting with his second wife, he pierced his ear, then moved to a hotel and began to periodically appear in the company of various women.
The divorce proceedings and the division of property dragged on for several years, and half of the actor's fortune, received by Melissa Matheson, was little consolation for her after the loss of her husband.
First of all - planes
In 2010, Harrison Ford married for the third time. Now his chosen one is the actress Calista Flockhart, whom he met before the wedding for 8 years. Even before the beginning of the affair with Ford, the actress became famous for her role in the television series "Ellie McBeal", where she played the main role.
It was for this work that the actress received the Golden Globe, at the ceremony of which in 2002 she met her future husband. The adopted son of Calista Liam, adopted by the actress in 2001, became a family for both spouses.
Harrison Ford's life seems to be a complete success. He has fame, worldwide recognition, money and a wonderful family. But the sky became his main love and source of happiness. He first began taking piloting lessons back in 1960, but was unable to pay $ 15 for each lesson and had to put off his dreams of the sky for a while.
But as soon as the opportunity arose, the actor bought a used Gulfstream II and began to take lessons again, now from his pilot Terry Bender. With his second marriage on the verge of collapse, Harrison Ford received a pilot's license, and was now legally able to fly planes and helicopters.
Now he flies not only for his own pleasure, he patrols the territory of reserves and rescues lost tourists. In the sky, he feels absolutely happy. True, he tries not to take his wife and children with him.
He is always in sight, attention is always riveted to him. And only there, in the sky, he can hide behind the call sign "November 1128 Sierra" and enjoy the silence and solitude, not forgetting, however, to look closely at what is happening below: suddenly someone needs his help.
Today Harrison Ford is one of the most popular actors in Hollywood. With his participation, they shoot high-grossing films, he produces various projects and participates in advertising campaigns. Films with Harrison Ford are action, adventure and adrenaline. Their gripping storyline will never let you get bored.
