All women love shoes, choosing the right pair for each outfit. Gwen Murphy - is no exception, only her love is of a slightly different nature. Collecting shoes, sneakers and boots, our heroine gives them a new life, turning ordinary shoes into unusual works of art.
When Gwen Murphy was a little girl, it always seemed to her that the shoes looked at her, and each pair has its own character and personality. Depending on the model and the degree of wear, some shoes looked sleepy, others grumpy or ferocious, and some even seemed to be singing. As an adult, Gwen Murphy not only did not forget her childhood fantasies, but also began to bring them to life.
Now the author collects pairs of old shoes and gives them not only a new life, but also a new face, making it out of clay and painting it with acrylics. Depending on the original shoes, the characters turn out to be completely different from each other, and literally everything is used: exotic Indian slippers and rustic wooden shoes, fashionable stiletto heels and shabby sneakers …
Gwen Murphy called her collection of sculptures "Shoe Fetish", thus expressing her attitude to this element of the wardrobe. “I believe that shoes are a fetish because they have the power to protect us and carry us from place to place,” says the sculptor.
Gwen Murphy graduated from Boston University College of Fine Arts with an MA in Sculpture. Exhibitions of her works are held in major US cities: New York, Philadelphia, Boston.
