Israeli illustrator and cartoonist Asaf Hanuka needs no special introduction. His comics and illustrations are multi-layered, highly social and … not at all for children.

It so happened that his brother, Tomer Hanuka, shared this hobby with him. Moreover, the brothers co-created the Bipolar comic series published by the American edition of Alternative comics. The series received high praise from critics and was nominated for several prestigious awards at once.

Despite the fact that Asaf and Tomer are colleagues, and even work in the same genre, their style is strikingly different. Tomer's works are merciless to the viewer. Tough and acutely social, they evoke very contradictory emotions in an unprepared audience. Asaph is by no means more restrained. It is readily published by such giants as Forbes, New York Times, Harvard Business Review and Wall Street. Winner of the Society of Illustrators' Gold Medal and the prestigious Award of Excellence, Asaf has inspired a generation of illustrators with his unique portrayal and everyday vision.

Asaf now lives with his family in Tel Aviv, successfully combining studies at the College of Textile Technology, Fashion and Design. Shenkar (Shankar College of Engineering and Design) with the work of an illustrator. His weekly comic "Realist", which is very popular not only among Israelis, tells about various aspects of the life of a young professional, and part-time the father of two children. The humor of everyday life is presented so competently that it brings a smile even to those who, due to gender, age and other things, do not associate themselves with the main character.

Realist did not come about by chance. “The representatives of the funding management of a Tel Aviv newspaper, knowing about my work, once asked me to create a small comic strip on a theme close to the theme of the newspaper. The comics were usually printed on the back page of the Sunday edition. After a few months, I began to turn to more personal moments - it's much easier for me - I practically don't have to invent anything, because I'm not a writer,”Asaf says.

Curiously, Asaf's comics often touch on social themes and contain strong political statements. “Comics in this sense are endowed with a special advantage: you can safely“say”something that you would never allow yourself anywhere else. This is due to the fact that many still consider comics to be exclusively children's fun. In Israel, where politics is always at the center of everyday life, comics are a fresh opportunity to tackle the problem."

Quite different comics are offered to the viewer by New York artist Mark Drew. His peculiar "mashup" of hip-hop lyrics of the 1990s and the comic book series "Peanuts" seems amusing even to those who are not close to either the first or the second.
