Who is he, the most dear living artist in the world? The answer is clear: Gerhard Richter. For more than ten years now, the artist living in Cologne, Germany, has headed all the world's top price lists. Richter's works diverge for fabulous sums of seven and eight digits. And this is during life! Incredible!
The artist was born on December 9, 1932 in Dresden, Germany. From 1948 to 1951 he studied at the art school in Zittau, then from 1952 to 1956 at the Higher School of Fine Arts in Dresden. In 1961 he emigrated to West Germany, where he continued his studies at the Academy of Arts in Dusseldorf (1961 - 1963) The first exhibition of Gerhard Richter took place in 1963 in an empty pavilion in Dusseldorf, but already in 1967 his work was awarded the Young Talent of the West prize.
In the 1970s, Richter painted a series of minimalist paintings entitled “Gray,” which were flat and monochrome surfaces. In 1972, Richter represented German art at the Venice Biennale. Only one artist of the Biennale - Gerhard Richter - was given a whole pavilion. The first solo exhibition of his work in the United States was held in 1973. Richter's work combines the traditions of realism with the pathos of pop art, with the late phenomena of informal painting.
Gerhard Richter is a versatile artist who works with glass, mirrors, sculpture. Engaged in photography and abstract painting. Richter says about painting: "Painting is the creation of an analogy of the inexpressible and the incomprehensible." "A good picture is incomprehensible."

Too simple abstract painting by Mizue Hirano
Fuzzy lines of a circle, uneven outlines of a square, blurred image, careless drops of paint…. Had I happened to visit the exhibition of this series of illustrations, and I would have thought that I was at the presentation of children's drawings, which small pens carefully and diligently took out with a brush on an album sheet.
