Video: The best photos of the past week (September 19-25) according to National Geographic
2024 Author: Richard Flannagan | [email protected]. Last modified: 2023-12-15 23:55
Today's release of the best photos by version National Geographic still consists of the most diverse and diverse masterpieces from talented photographers from around the world. But as a bonus, almost by tradition, consultant Catherine Karnow comments on all the photos.

Individual photography masters adapt to doing underwater photography, and that's fun in and of itself. But it is even more exciting to shoot underwater, well, or just aquatic creatures: the water calms, and the underwater world beckons with its serenity and unexploredness. However, sharks and other marine predators can break this serenity in no time, as in this photo. The contrast of serenity and danger is also highlighted by the beautiful turquoise sea and lush white clouds. It is very difficult to get such pictures: you need to take a lot of frames and win over the animals you are shooting. Well, or with caution, sit closer to them.

Contrasting elements make photos more dynamic. Try changing the shutter speed to bring out the essence of these very elements. For example, by increasing the shutter speed to two or three seconds, you can achieve such an unusual effect for fireworks, and slightly increase the dynamism of the explosion. Do not stop a moment, but stretch it a little … and only then stop.

The key to successful macro photography, and its integral component, is a shallow depth of field. And before you shoot insects, you need to decide what exactly you want to keep in focus, and what details to make blurry. In this photo, taken at f / 2.8, the flower and the rest of the background are out of focus, while the grasshopper is crisp and sharp. This effect seems to send the viewer into the world of tiny insects. However, do not forget that the eyes - of humans, animals and insects - should always be in focus.

For photography, mystery and intrigue are also important. A successful image often makes the viewer think. What is the secret of this photo, why the children from Uganda are so clung to the cracks of the pub that they are trying to see there? Both funny and curious. The wide-angle lens was very useful for the photographer in this situation: he got close enough to the children, but they were so carried away that they did not notice the observation from the side.

Photographers are well aware that light plays one of the main roles in photography. Therefore, when shooting landscapes, they often have to trumpet the rise before dawn. In this photograph, it is difficult not to notice the exquisite light of the first rays of the sun, which gives the landscape a magical quality. In addition, the water serves as a mirror for the tree, and its reflection gives the photo more colors. And you need to remember that the light changes very quickly, and the right moment can be lost instantly, because in ten minutes it will be a completely different picture, a completely different mood, different shades …

A photographer always and everywhere needs wide open eyes: it is not always necessary to photograph the main subject, because the secondary one can be much more interesting. So in this picture it is not a boy running with balls that flaunts, but only his shadow. Curiously, the colors of the balls are perfectly reproduced in the picture, and the picture itself looks very lively and interesting.
September 25
Taking portraits doesn't mean that you only need to photograph people. Pictures of animals are also portraits, and the requirements for them are almost the same. So, for example, in this picture - a pair of white lions from South Africa. Shallow depth of field, focus on the eyes of the animal in the lower right corner, natural emotion on the "face" of the fanged model … And in this case, the main thing for the photographer is not only to make a high-quality portrait of the model, but also to save his own portrait.
