African Country Before Independence: Retro Shots of Colonial Mozambique in the 1920s

In the minds of modern inhabitants, the colonialists of African countries were such oppressors and oppressors of the unfortunate aborigines. There is some truth in this, of course, but the Europeans also built roads, hospitals, schools, and developed social infrastructure. This review presents retro shots of the colonial Mozambique 1920s.

Archival photographs of Mozambique at the beginning of the 20th century demonstrate the life and standard of living of the colonialists of that time. Judging by the pictures, the administrative structure in this African country was no worse than in Europe. The Portuguese colonialists in Mozambique were attracted by the mining of gold and ivory. The main flow of wealth was directed to Portugal, but the economy developed in Mozambique, cities were built. On the streets one could see trams, telephone lines and publishing houses were working properly.

Thanks to a more or less mild climate on the shores of the Indian Ocean, the flow of tourists from Europe to the country did not stop.

By the 1920s, a road network had been built in Mozambique.

It is worth noting that medicine in colonial Mozambique has also reached a high level: outbreaks of epidemics in the country have been reduced to almost zero.

Mozambique gained independence in 1975. Almost all the Portuguese were expelled from the country, and a civil war broke out. For several years, Mozambique in economic development has been pushed back many decades. Today this state is considered one of the poorest countries on the African continent.

In 1968, another country, Equatorial Guinea, gained its independence from the colonialists. Here are just the new "native" president for 11 years of his reign destroyed everything that was associated with the concept of a developed country, and after the coup d'etat ate the entire state treasury.
