The tradition of painting buffalo has been around for a long time. According to legend, once a group of water buffaloes grazing in a field was attacked by a large tiger. The predator drove one of them, and a struggle began between the animals. The buffalo's body gradually became covered with wounds, blood and dirt mixed, forming frightening smudges. Buffalo was so scary that the tiger got scared and ran away. Since then, local residents began to apply drawings to cattle in order to protect them from predators. Gradually, this tradition grew into a popular festival held annually to celebrate the harvest and pay tribute to pets.
