For two years, an American photographer Caleb Cain Marcus traveled the world taking pictures of glaciers. The series was named A Portrait of Ice, and looking at it, one can understand why the Eskimo lexicon has several dozen words for the types of snow and ice.

To create this series Caleband was inspired by a trip to the famous Perito Moreno glacier. There the photographer found something that he lacked so much in his native New york: extraordinary spaciousness for the eyes and a deep state of inner peace. This event marked the beginning of a large-scale photo project, working on which, Caleb visited more than twenty glaciers located in various parts of the world: from Iceland and Alaska before New Zealand.

According to Caleb Cain Marcus, he had never been able to predict how successful the photographs of the glacier would turn out. Previously, he consulted about a specific object with numerous climbers, studied it on maps, examined it in images received from space, but at the shooting location Caleb invariably waiting for some surprise.

Even the most famous glaciers do not particularly pamper the viewer with the brightness of colors and richness of forms, but Caleb Cain Marcus managed to discern behind their external modesty traits of individuality and uniqueness. One of his main goals was to present a familiar object to the viewer in an unusual way. As the artist himself explained: "When we are faced with something unknown, we do not look at this phenomenon more attentively."

Last but not least Caleb wanted to awaken the viewer's interest in nature. In his opinion, if people were more closely connected with her, they would refrain from many bad deeds and would not pursue false goals with such zeal.
