On January 3, some of the Russian analytical agencies published a new world rating of museums. This year, only one museum from the Russian Federation could get into the top ten best museums around the world. It became the state museum-reserve "Peterhof", which is located in St. Petersburg. This museum managed to take the eighth line in the world ranking.
The agency said that such a rating is compiled by experts in accordance with the number of visitors who have been here over the whole year. According to the results of attendance of the past 2018, the best were the Parisian Louvre, Beijing National Museum of China, New York Metropolitan Museum, London British Museum, Modern Art Gallery and National Gallery, Washington National Gallery of Art, St. Petersburg Peterhof, Vatican Museum and Imperial Palace Museum. which is located in the Chinese city of Taipei.
The first place in the world ranking of museums is deservedly taken by the Parisian Louvre. Over the past year, this museum was visited by a huge number of people - 10, 2 million people. The State Museum-Reserve was visited by half the number of people a little more than 5 million, but even this figure allowed Peterhof to enter the ranking and take the eighth position, thereby bypassing the Vatican Museum and the Chinese Museum of the Imperial Court in Taipei.
It is worth remembering that St. Petersburg's Peterhof was recognized as the most visited museum in the Russian Federation at the end of 2017. Then, during the specified period, this museum was visited by 5, 3 million tourists. At the same time, it was noted that 40% of the indicated amount accounted for visiting the museum-reserve by foreign guests. Such data were provided by the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation.
Peterhof cannot be called an ordinary museum, it is a whole museum complex, which includes more than thirty museums. One of the main attractions of Peterhof is its fountain system, which includes 147 fountains. Such indicators allowed this system to become one of the largest fountain systems around the world. All these fountains can be seen in the Lower Park and in the Upper Garden of the place that was previously the residence of the emperor, created during the time of Peter the Great, more precisely in 1710.
