Wooden sculptures made by David C. Roy look beautiful even in photographs. But in order to understand what they really are, you must definitely see them in motion, because these sculptures are not simple, but kinetic.

David Roy began working on the creation of kinetic sculptures in 1975. The author says that physics and movement have always interested him, but, as often happens, it was not without a woman. The author's wife studied at an art college and was fond of creating sculptures that resemble various mechanisms. All her works were static, but it was they who once prompted David to think: "What if you make them move?" The first attempts were unsuccessful, and the author even left his idea alone for a while. For a while - but not forever. In 1976 David Roy was successful. And even though his first sculpture was awkward and not looking its best, it was all a trifle compared to the fact that it moved!

The force that sets the sculpture in motion is an ordinary wind. According to the author, even a weak movement of air activates the work of his works, after which they remain in motion from one and a half to fifteen hours. David says that the ideas of some sculptures live and improve in his head for years, while others “shoot” and turn into real works within a few days. However, like many other authors, our hero assures that any of his works in reality are completely different from what he conceived at the beginning.

Each sculpture David assigns a name. “My wife and I are collecting words that can become good names. Science museums give us a lot of ideas, as well as the names of yachts. " As a result, beautiful poetic names are obtained: "Fiesta", "Summer Rain", "Solar Dance", "Serenade", "Zephyr".
