British wedding photographer Chris Wallace never had problems with orders, so he was working almost around the clock. Everything changed dramatically when the coronavirus epidemic began in the country and the authorities introduced a self-isolation regime. Sitting around, if you are used to working hard, and even adore your craft, is like death. However, Wallace quickly came up with a way out. He remembered his old favorite Lego set, took out the figures, "married" the characters and made them a wedding photo session.
- Wow, what an incredible day! Florence and Fred were very lucky that their wedding took place during self-isolation, - with such a comment the photographer preceded his photo session posted on his website.
Chris Wallace, based in Cheshire, is the owner and lead photographer of Carpe Diem Photography. His path to his own successful business was long. First - working on making hamburgers at McDonald's and moving up the fast food career ladder to an employee of Domino's pizzeria. But he realized in time that fast food work was not for him. In 2005, Chris graduated from the university with a degree in business management.
He worked as a bank clerk, real estate agent, dispatch operator in the Cheshire Police. And now, finally, he found himself in the profession of a wedding photographer: he succeeded, opened his own business and realized that this was his vocation and his passion.
And then, as luck would have it, the coronavirus epidemic: there is no work and you have to stay at home. Wallace has a wife, stepdaughter, amstaf and three cats. At home in their company, of course, you will not get bored, but after all, someone has to feed the family, and it is hard without what you love.
- I went from an incredibly busy wedding photographer who had no free time to a person who was stuck at home for a long time. And then I remembered that I love Lego and that this constructor has a huge number of fans. So I dusted off my 20-year-old set, bought another set, Bride and Groom, and immediately got to work,”says Chris.
It took three days to plan the wedding, hold it, take photos and write a blog.
- It was so much fun! It's so easy to be creative without rushing and not thinking that you have a very limited time, as it happens at a real wedding, says Wallace enthusiastically. - And I can't wait to continue my photo story about the bride and groom.
Chris accompanied the photos published on the site with a story about his plastic "clients" and their wedding.
- They met in a warehouse. On the conveyor belt, their eyes met, and they fell in love with each other - from that moment they knew that they would be together forever - such a romantic story was invented by the photographer.
Chris says that he started his honeymoon with Florence and Fred by shooting on the beach at sunset. And on the day of the wedding, Fred drove to the venue in his 1990s Mercedes SL-500, which he found in the attic.
“Together with his best men, he enjoyed a relaxing drink before the ceremony. Florence, unfortunately, had to prepare for the wedding on her own, since the bridesmaids were on self-isolation, as well as due to the overpriced Lego goods that Amazon had inflated.
The ceremony took place in the open air in the most luxurious decorations, filled with the greenest plastic leaves and the brightest plastic flowers. We were also very lucky to have specially invited guests at our wedding, including Chewbacca, Han Solo and the 1980 Lego Cosmonaut,”writes the photographer.
At the same time, Chris clarifies that during the ceremony Florence walked down the aisle with her father Harry Potter and that hardly any of the guests noticed that the bride's dress was worn backwards. In general, it is impossible to read this fascinating story without laughing.
“Thank you very much, dear Florence and Fred, for taking me with you to capture your special day,” sums up the dreamer Wallace.
The photographer explains that with his example, he also wanted to support self-employed people who, like him, are now deprived of the opportunity to work, and to show them that you can approach this problem creatively.
