At the end of the twentieth century, the players of the club “What? Where? When? were no less famous and popular than movie and pop stars. The audience recognized them by sight, and numerous fans could sit for hours at the shooting pavilion, waiting for a meeting with their idols. Today, someone continues to play now in an intellectual casino, while someone has chosen a quiet, calm life away from the glitter of the spotlights.
Alexander Druz
He is the record holder among the club members, as he has been playing almost without a break since 1981 and is not going to stop. Today, Alexander Druz is the head of the game programs department on the STO-TV channel in St. Petersburg, is the author and host of television programs, in 2017 he starred in films. Conducts trainings on intellectual games, gives lectures. He wrote a fascinating book about St. Petersburg, its memorable places and interesting routes around the city.

Alexander Byalko
One of the brightest players since 1979. Alexander Byalko received two higher educations, the first in the field of nuclear physics, the second in journalism. He taught at MEPhI, held managerial positions in several companies, worked as the dean of one of the capital's universities, was engaged in scientific work. He took part in the program "The Last Hero", hosted the author's program on the radio. He has written five books and many journalistic articles. Having married a second time, he seeks not to draw attention to himself and his personal life.
Boris Burda
Besides “What? Where? When?”, Boris Burda has two serious hobbies: cooking and bard song. At many bard song festivals he became a laureate, and his love of cooking grew into a profession. On Ukrainian television, he hosted a culinary program "Tasty with Boris Burda", which was loved not only for its original recipes, but also for interesting facts and stories that the host generously spiced up his program with. Burda is a heating engineer by profession, but a talented culinary specialist by vocation. He is the author of 10 books, mainly on cooking.
Fedor Dvinyatin
Actively played in the club for 15 years, starting in 1990. Fedor Dvinyatin graduated from the Faculty of Philology of St. Petersburg State University in 1991, and since 1992 has been teaching. He wrote about 50 scientific papers and 10 books on philology. He does not like publicity and increased attention to his person. It never ceases to emphasize the fact that he really knows very little, although his education and erudition can impress even the most notorious skeptics.
Nurali Latypov
He is known not only as a “What? Where? When?”, But also as a politician, inventor, cartoonist and writer. It seems that there is no such area where Nurali Latypov, a neurophysiologist and candidate of philosophical sciences, would be ignorant. He frankly says that playing in the club was a breath of fresh air for him, it gave him impulses for creativity and inventions. He held many very serious positions, and today he is the head of the laboratory and the institute. At the same time, he continues to draw cartoons, winning the Grand Prix at international competitions, and is also engaged in literary creativity, even became a laureate of the Golden Calf award.
Andrey Kamorin
He got into the club quite by accident, agreeing to accompany a shy friend. As a result, he has 8 years of games, the title of the best team captain and the love and recognition of the audience. After graduating from MGIMO, he worked as an international journalist. Today he heads the Forward-Film company, does not refuse to participate in the anniversary games of the club.
Leonid Vladimirsky
His participation in “What? Where? When? began in 1982 with a letter to the editor of the program, where a MEPhI student announced that he played better than the club members. The answer was an invitation to participate in the game. In 1994, he left the club with a scandal related to the refusal of the presenter to apologize for reproaching the members of the team of Valentina Golubeva. However, he could not be on the sidelines for a long time and returned after a year and a half. Now he lives in New York, works as a system administrator.
Valentina Golubeva
The creator and captain of the first and only women's team appeared at the club in 1982. The desire to become a member was associated with personal sympathy for one of the members of the intellectual club. Behind her shoulders training at the Department of Applied Mathematics at the Belarusian University, the title of candidate of technical sciences and many leadership positions in the field of political consulting and public relations. In addition, Valentina Golubeva teaches a special course at MGIMO and often visits intellectual casinos and games as a spectator.
Georgy Zharkov
Scandals and even a criminal case are associated with the name of this player. He had been a member of the club since 1994, and after 10 years he fraudulently received tournament questions to his email address. Later he was accused of sexual harassment of young people, and was sentenced to a suspended sentence. Many famous players, after a series of scandalous statements by Zharkov, categorically refused to participate in all tournaments where he was going to play. He was removed from participation in the games, and in 2016 Georgy Zharkov died in his homeland in Vladimir.
Nikita Shangin
He came to the club already working as an architect and managed to become one of the brightest players and captains of the club. He is seriously passionate about his main profession, he is the author of ambitious projects, such as the Katyn Memorial Complex in the Smolensk Region and the National Center for Contemporary Art in Moscow. The great-great-grandfather of Nikita Shangin on the female side is Hadji Murat himself.
About the difficult and irreconcilable character of the creator and host of “What? Where? When? all his acquaintances and colleagues spoke, but it was not those around him that suffered the most, but he himself. Vladimir Voroshilov several times he was fired from television, and the audience wondered for many years why he was not shown in the frame, not knowing that the presenter was forbidden to appear on the screens.
