At first glance, you can't even understand what Mark Langan creates his works from. It seems from which is very unusual and surprising. And when you learn the secret of the master, something completely different surprises: all his works are made of ordinary cardboard. Incredible, isn't it?
Corrugated cardboard is the main material that Mark Langan needs for his creativity. In this regard, the author even came up with a special term to denote his type of activity - "corrugated art" ("Corrugated Art"). By Mark's definition, it is a celebration of the unique properties of highly explicit manufactured products that were intended for entirely different purposes. "Shirred art" is the desire to creatively emphasize those aesthetic qualities of objects that are usually unconsciously ignored.
In the case of Mark Langan, cardboard has become such a production material in which he looks for beauty. The author usually finds unnecessary boxes either among his own garbage, or in the garbage cans of neighbors. Using a knife or razor blade, base and non-toxic glue, Mark Langan creates his paintings by layering cardboard elements. Corrugated cardboard is also interesting to use because its appearance changes depending on the incidence of light and the angle of view.
The end result isn't just beautiful with its intricate lines and patterns. First of all, it reminds viewers of the need to follow such a popular nowadays 3R rule: Reduce, Reuse, Recycle - that is, reduction, reuse, recycling. Mark Langan, as we can see, has no problems with this.
Mark Langan lives in Cleveland, Ohio, USA. Having mastered the work with a considerable amount of materials, since 2004 the author prefers to deal exclusively with recycled material. Mark's creativity is in great demand: he collaborates with cardboard and paper companies, recycling companies, manufacturers of packaging materials, green industry organizations.
