Colin Selig, a New York-based artist, turns waste gas cylinders into designer chairs and benches.
Have you ever seen large propane tanks kept in warehouses or transported on huge trailers? These are large capsules that rust over time and are discarded as waste material. Such tanks cannot be repaired, as they are designed to contain gas under pressure. It never occurred to us before what happened to these cylinders after they were decommissioned, until the talented artist Colin Seling started making incredible chairs and benches out of them.
Colin Seling exhibited his creations for the first time at the New York International Contemporary Furniture Fair. Indeed, furniture made from propane capsules looks like first-class. It will fit perfectly into the outdoor architecture, for example, a park, and will look good in the most luxurious hall.
To make his creations, Colin cuts spent cylinders into the most intricate pieces, which he then welds into one masterpiece. Since all the capsules are cylindrical, Selinga's benches and chairs take on sporty curves that give the products an even greater effect, becoming the highlight of the project. According to the artist, as many as four benches are obtained from one tank, because he uses 99% of the source material.
Seling's hobby is not the cheapest, but still Colin wants to distribute his benches throughout the city: in parks, train stations, and also sell to organizations to cover the cost of materials. Agree, such furniture cannot be left unattended, it is simply obliged to please New Yorkers and not only.
