The Albinos series by Brazilian photographer Gustavo Lacerda tells about albinos - people with amazing looks. It's all about the lack of a special pigment in such people, which gives color to the skin, hair and the iris of the eye.
“The peculiar beauty of albinism has been haunting me for several years now,” says the photographer, “Since 2009, I began to explore the wonderful world of these people, trying to get at least some of them into my photographs. It was no coincidence that I chose portrait photography, paying sufficient attention to the selection of costumes and makeup … It was important for me that these people, perhaps for the first time, felt themselves “in the foreground”. Naturally, this was what caused them the greatest excitement, many felt discomfort, others, on the contrary, pride. Capturing these emotions was my main task.
It was very important for the photographer to win over people - after all, many of them had to shoot for the first time, besides, few of them realized their attractiveness. In addition, there is no universal method that helps everyone, without exception, to relax in front of the camera. The first to come to Lacerda's studio were a young couple - Flavio and Fernanda. It so happened that the shooting had to take place at one of the most exciting moments in the life of young people - on the eve of their wedding.
Gustavo Lacerda was born in Belo Horizonte in 1970 and currently lives and works in São Paulo. He began his career as a photojournalist, then worked for some time in the advertising industry, having received several awards at home and abroad. Recently, he has been closely involved in the large Albinos project. It was only in 2012 that he decided to complete it, taking some interesting pictures of albinos living in the north of Brazil. In addition, his exhibitions are held in France, Portugal, Belgium, Germany, the USA and other countries.
People with an unusual and interesting appearance can be found in different parts of our planet. For example, the French photographer Eric Lafforgue, traveling the world as part of the World in Faces photo project, replenishes his photo archive with portraits of people from China, Japan, Korea, as well as Pakistan and India.
