If you have not yet had time to get acquainted with the amazing art of carving, then boldly make up for lost time. Carving appeared a long time ago in China, and the second wave of popularity hit it with the development of the restaurant business: the first carvers were the chefs of elite restaurants who knew how to turn an ordinary carrot into a carved miracle. Since then, the hobby has attracted a multitude of people who are more like artists than chefs - as a result, the skill of carvers has grown even more.

First European Carving Championship took place in the German city of Leipzig. The competition was organized as part of the GÄSTE 2011 grand exhibition of the hotel and gastronomy business. Carving Masters came from Russia, Ukraine, Poland, Czech Republic, Bulgaria and, of course, Germany. Each team has three members. The arbiter was Chinese master Xiang Wang, twice world champion in carving. The participants performed for three days in several nominations: vegetable salad, cocktail decoration, mix.

The raw materials for the artists were melon, papaya, cucumber, pumpkin, cabbage, carrots and radish, and instead of a brush - a special sharp-pointed knife-cutter. Only four hours were allotted for the embodiment of plans and fantasies in fruit and vegetable flesh: carving does not tolerate kopush!

Our compatriots performed at this competition more than worthily: the Russians took the gold and shared the silver with the Poles, and the Germans took the third place. The winners of the tournament surprised the whole world with the subtlety and perfection of their work: not a single photo report about the competition was complete without a photo carving master Vadim Nefedovcarving a wonderful fiery eagle. However, the melon Viking of the Czech Radek Vac and the Japanese watermelon of the German Winifried Karras also won the admiration of the audience.

The European Carving Championship will now be held every two years in different cities.
