A letter in a bottle is a frequent motive in adventure novels, a cry for help corked in an empty container and the only way to send a message about yourself. The casual addressee does not know whether the author of the unusual message is still alive, but he is sure that a person needs to be saved, brought back to civilized life. Photo manipulations by Mark Jankus are also a way to save souls. From oblivion. For this, portraits of people (and not only people) are placed in bottles. It remains to insert the plug more tightly - and the message to fellow descendants is ready.
For almost a week now, an exhibition of local photographer Marc Yankus has been going on in New York. The author of collages explains his interest in photo manipulation with his passion for painting. He is haunted by the opportunity to create his own world with unusual laws, so that simple photography cannot be limited here.
Mark Jankus does not claim to be the only correct interpretation of his bottle collages. There is no special message behind photo manipulations, the author insists, so everyone is free to come up with their own versions of what these new genies are behind the glass and why they climbed into the bottle.
