Many people love horror films about zombies, like "Evil Dead" or "Dawn of the Dead", which in childhood frightened them to goosebumps. But the zombies of the Canadian artist Kira Shaimanova won't scare you. They will wash your floor, take you across the road, protect you from a burglar. These zombies are noble, polite, not evil at all, and the mere sight of them will make you smile.
Kira Shaimanova is a doll artist based in Toronto. On her website, she writes that she became interested in sculpture after taking a course on making dolls one summer. Her job is to make funny figurines of characters, and then photograph compositions that consist of them. Kira says she tries to bring a spark of humor to every work. The sources of inspiration for her are all the fantastic and unreal.
Like the horror-style drawings by Mike Sosnowski, in Kira's works the terrible is brought to the point of absurdity and ceases to be such. Her series of figurines made and painted by herself is called ‘Chivalry is Undead’. The expression is difficult to translate, because there is a play on words: undead is both a living (rather, "undead)", and, in fact, a "living dead". That is, it is possible to translate both “Nobility and courage are alive”, and “Nobility and courage of the living dead”.
In the pictures we see an absolutely cute and well-mannered living carrion, which the artist constructed with such pleasure.
Kira Shaimanova, of course, created the most amusing works, but a serious subtext of her works is not excluded: chivalry, nobility, self-sacrifice became so rare among people that, in fact, they died. And now the living dead take these dead qualities into their withered hands.
The author of noble zombies has his own website, as well as a blog that is constantly updated and in which you can write if you want.
