Are there people who, in our difficult times, at least once did not want to hide from the whole world and get lost in a safe shelter at least for a few hours? Brazilian author Ernesto Neto has taken this dream into reality with his largest and undoubtedly the most spectacular installation, Anthropodino, last year.
"Anthropodino" is a kind of pavilion, where wooden arches covered with transparent colored fabric form many corridors and passages. From the inside, it resembles a cave, which children especially love to explore. In addition, huge fabric “drops” hang from the “ceiling” of the installation, some of which are filled with spices: turmeric, cloves, ginger, black pepper, caraway seeds. According to eyewitnesses, the air inside the structure is filled with spicy aromas that evoke a variety of associations.
The author offers to study the installation of Ernesto Neto from various points of view. In addition to wandering through the labyrinths of corridors, spectators also have the opportunity to go up to the inner balcony of the hall in which the Anthropodino is located and view the installation from above. If we consider that the work is inside the building, then its dimensions are impressive: about 37 meters wide and 55 meters long.
Ernesto Neto is one of the absolute leaders of the modern Brazilian art scene. He often creates installations that occupy the entire space of the exhibition halls. The author's works evoke associations with the human body and something organic. Ernesto himself describes his work as "the study and presentation of human landscapes from the inside." It is very important for the author that the viewer can not only observe his works from the outside, but also interact with them directly, for example, by touching them or inhaling their smell.
